How Fades a Man Without Dying

Ein Gedicht von Corina Junghiatu
A man fades
like a vowel
from the middle of a word said too often.
He fades
like a sentence without a verb.
He fades
like an echo...
the second time,
when the mountain grows tired
of answering back.

That is how a man fades.

He does not lose blood.

He does not lose flesh.

He loses the wonder
that kept matter
open toward infinity.

Then the light
turns its face
toward the unseen,
and the man
goes on walking through the world
like the alphabet
after the first letter has left.

It is not death.

It is another geometry of absence.
