Democracy
A Poem by Önder Demir
Democracy needs people who stand up for it,
Who speak with courage, who do not only stay silent and harm.
With open hearts and a clear mind,
They shape the future, hand in hand.
Democracy blossoms when we unite,
When we shine for justice and humanity.
Every individual counts, every contribution has value,
Together we are strong—that is our goal, our whole.
Democracy is not an easy promise,
It calls on us to break the silence.
It challenges us to question ourselves,
And dares us to carry the wounds of truth.
Democracy needs doubt that burns,
But also trust that knows solutions.
The courage that finds order within chaos,
And hope that carries us when everything collapses.
Democracy is not a gift that simply remains,
It lives only in the hands that seize it.
In every thought, in every vote,
It is the pulse that sustains our morality.
Democracy is a work that never rests,
It grows when we nurture it, and dies without courage.
So let us tend it, protect it, and honor it,
So its rays may illuminate the future.
Democracy needs hands that act and create,
That build bridges instead of strengthening walls.
Hearts that feel the suffering of those who cry out,
And voices that carry truth through the darkness.
Let us preserve the values of freedom,
For a future we experience together.
Democracy needs people who stand up,
For a better world where we all live and value one another.
Democracy needs all of us as a whole,
In unity of freedom, in courageous dance,
For only when we act, hand in hand,
Does democracy remain alive in every land.
